A passenger in a car was fatally injured and four others were injured overnight when the vehicle struck a pole on the south side of the Gresham neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 2:15 a.m., a white Chrysler 300 was heading south in the 7700 block of South Vincennes Avenue when it struck a pole, police said. A passenger in the Chrysler was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. Four other people, including the driver, were also injured.
The driver, 19, suffered a fractured femur and hip and was taken to UChicago Medicine where he was listed in serious condition. Another man, aged 18, suffered lacerations and was transported to the same hospital and found to be in fair condition. A 22-year-old man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and listed in serious condition. A fourth person, who did not cooperate with officers, suffered a fractured femur and was also taken to the same medical center and listed in serious condition, police said.
Charges were pending.
