2 medical flights and 3 others hospitalized after the violent accident in Cape Town

The accident remains under investigation by Harwich Police.

Five people were injured Monday evening in a single-car crash in Harwich when the vehicle left the road and burst into flames.

According to the Harwich Fire Department, the accident happened at 10:48 p.m. on Queen Anne Road, near the power lines and Rebecca Road.

When Harwich police arrived on scene, they found the car had left the roadway, crossed a guardrail and caught fire. Four of the car’s occupants were outside the vehicle and one was still inside.

Harwich officers used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire and removed the last person from the car, according to fire officials.

When firefighters later arrived, the car was in flames and officers were treating the five occupants.

First responders took three people to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and two people were transported by medical helicopter to Mass General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Firefighters extinguished the vehicle fire as well as a small brush fire.

The accident remains under investigation by Harwich Police.
