The Illinois State Fair officially kicks off in Springfield on Thursday, and in addition to new foods and wild rides, there are theme days that will be celebrated by guests and organizers.
“Our theme days allow us to celebrate the diversity of the Illinois State Fair and all it has to offer,” said Rebecca Clark, Illinois State Fair Director. “Each year, we look for opportunities to make the Illinois State Fair affordable and accessible to families and to expand their exposure to agriculture, the state’s number one industry.”
Here is the complete list of thematic days
- August 8: Day of departmental fairs and horse races
- August 9: Agriculture Day
- August 10: Children’s Day
- August 11: Gold Star Veterans and Families Day
- August 12: Seniors and Scouts Day
- August 13: Two days
- August 14: Governor’s Day
- August 15: Republican Day
- August 16: First Responders and Healthcare Heroes Day
- August 17: Park District Conservation Day
- August 18: Family Day
Some theme days even come with special offers. For example, veterans and their families are admitted free on August 11, seniors and scouts are admitted free on August 12, and first responders and health care workers with ID are admitted free on August 16.
On August 13, seniors and adults can enjoy $2 admission to the fair. In honor of “Twosday,” all attractions will also be $2.
