35-year-old woman killed in pedestrian crash in Worcester, police say

The crash comes less than a week after Worcester City Council voted to lower the citywide speed limit to 25 miles per hour.

Police said the driver was driving down South Ludlow Street when the car struck two pedestrians Tuesday night.

A woman died in a car crash in Worcester on Tuesday, police said.

The “serious pedestrian accident” left another victim hospitalized, the Worcester Police Department said in a statement.

Police arrived at the intersection of Clover and South Ludlow streets at 9:56 p.m. Tuesday, according to the release. Officers said they found two victims at the scene and transported them to the hospital. The deceased victim was 35 years old, police said. The other victim, also a woman, “sustained less serious injuries,” the department said.

Worcester police said a preliminary investigation shows a driver was traveling on South Ludlow Street when two pedestrians crossed the street. The vehicle struck the two pedestrians and then another car, police said. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

After more than 90 pedestrian crashes in 2024, the Worcester City Council voted on September 10 to lower the speed limit to 25 miles per hour citywide. Worcester officials also declared a “traffic safety and traffic violence crisis” in July following a crash that killed a 13-year-old girl.
