An 87-year-old man and dance instructor from suburban Buffalo Grove was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday, and loved ones remember him as a “ball of energy” with a deep passion for what he did. he did.
Roman Mazur was struck by a vehicle around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Buffalo Grove Road and Larraway Drive in Buffalo Grove, and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
Police have not released information about the vehicle that fatally struck Mazur, but said the driver was cooperating with authorities.
Mazur and his wife, Tatyana, came to the United States from kyiv in the late 1990s and later founded Mazurdance, a studio located in Buffalo Grove.
“Roman has been doing this since he was young, he started when he was 25,” said Mazur’s great-niece, Maria Khrakovsky.
Khrakovsky said Mazur jogged up to six kilometers a day and took notes on his blood pressure, emphasizing that he placed great importance on his physical health.
Roman was jogging when he was struck Monday morning, leaving behind a legacy felt across generations.
“His colleagues and friends are all over the world. In the United States, Israel, Ukraine and Europe, he was the center,” said Mazur’s wife Tatiana.
On Tuesday, dance studio closets are filled with Ukrainian and Russian ballet pieces worn decades ago by dancers from those countries.
Classes at the studio are expected to take place for the remainder of the week in Mazur’s honor, before his service on Friday.
