Hollie Richardson

Daley: Olympic superstar

9pm, BBC Two
“By far the best Olympian we’ve ever had in the UK.” That’s one of the ways Daley Thompson, who dominated the decathlon for almost a decade, is portrayed in this documentary about his life. He tells the remarkable story himself, revealing for the first time the trauma he’s faced since childhood after his father was murdered. HOUR

David Olusoga remembers Britain’s forgotten slave owners

Kyle: The Shooter Who Divided America

This gripping documentary follows that trial, what led up to it, and the controversial attention that followed, speaking with insiders and Rittenhouse himself. HOUR

Movie Choice

Mean Girls (Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr, 2024), Paramount+
The beloved 2004 comedy spawned a musical that has now spawned the song-filled movie from Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. Aside from the tunes, which range from Avril Lavigne to Billie Eilish to Beyoncé, and the TikTok-like social media presence, this is something of a rehash of the original. “Fetch” is still off the table, naive new girl Cady (Angourie Rice) is once again seduced by the power of the Plastics clique led by Reneé Rapp’s intimidating Regina, and writer/co-star Tina Fey is back to teach kids that calling someone ugly won’t make you more beautiful. Simon Wardell

An Education (Lone Scherfig, 2009)), 11:45pm, BBC Two
Scherfig’s 2009 drama, starring Carey Mulligan, who made her mark, is a successful adaptation of Lynn Barber’s coming-of-age memoir. Mulligan’s acting is magnetic even in its quietest moments, as her 16-year-old character, Jenny, transforms from a conscientious Oxford student to a school dropout and lover of Peter Saarsgard’s charming but unsavory David. The new experiences her older boyfriend offers her seem like a release, but the fast cars and trips to Paris aren’t as promising as they seem. South West
