Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital rank among the top 20 in the country.

Two Massachusetts hospitals ranked among top 20 U.S. hospitals in 2024-2025 US and World News ranking. Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital are on the publication’s honor roll, which does not rank them in order, as was previously the case.
However, the publication ranked hospitals by individual specialties, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital ranked as the best hospital in the country for obstetrics and gynecology.
According to the magazine’s Top 10 Children’s Hospitals list, Massachusetts is also home to the second-best children’s hospital in the country. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in Ohio ranks first, followed by Boston Children’s Hospital.
US and World News has published its annual ranking of the best hospitals for more than 30 years, saying its mission is to help guide patients, in consultation with their doctors, to the right hospital when they need care.
American News offers rankings and reviews of three dozen healthcare services, including cancer care, orthopedics, heart bypass surgery and more.
The magazine also rates hospitals in 20 key procedures and conditions, such as knee replacement, coronary artery bypass grafting and, new this year, gynecologic cancer surgery. The ranking also includes 15 areas of complex specialty care.
The ratings given to each hospital depend on patient outcomes, the effectiveness of patient treatment and other factors such as the quality of the patient experience and adequate staffing levels.
The Best Hospitals Honor Roll highlights 20 hospitals that excel in most or all of the types of care evaluated by American NewsHospitals receive points if they are ranked nationally in all 15 specialties and rated high performing in any of 20 procedures and conditions.
