A six-year-old boy lost in a Vietnamese forest for five days survived by eating leaves and wild fruits before being miraculously found by local farmers on Wednesday.
Young Dang Tien Lam was too weak to stand and covered in dirt when he was discovered more than three miles from where he had wandered off while playing with his nine siblings, the BBC reported, citing local news.
The boy, who lives in the northwestern province of Yen Bai, was enjoying a day at a stream on Saturday when he headed into the hills and disappeared.
During his terrifying ordeal, he nibbled on leaves, fruit and drew water from the stream to drink.
He was eventually spotted perched in some cassava bushes.
“I am so tired that I can’t get up, please carry me,” Lam told farmer Ly Van Nang, the outlet reported.
“[The child told me] “When he got lost, he couldn’t find his way home,” the 52-year-old said, local website Dan Tri reported.
“And the more he walked, the more he found no way out.”
Once he got out of the forest, he was allegedly offered a cake.
Authorities have mobilized more than 150 people, including police, soldiers and volunteers, to search for Lam.
The local department called the discovery a “miracle.”
