One dead, another seriously burned after ‘suspicious’ fire at Connecticut house

One person was found dead in a Connecticut home following a “suspicious” fire, while another was found suffering from severe burns in nearby woods, state police said.

Firefighters responded to the Thompson Fire, located about 50 miles (80 kilometers) from Hartford, around 10:55 p.m. Wednesday, NBC Connecticut reported.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders quickly requested assistance from Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit officers, who ultimately classified the house fire as “suspicious in nature,” state police said.

Authorities have not provided details on what may have sparked the flames, or what evidence they have found suggesting the fire had nefarious origins.

During the investigation, which lasted until Thursday morning, authorities found a man with severe burns about 200 feet into the woods on the property. LifeStar was called to the scene and he was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

His name has not been released and his condition was unclear Friday afternoon.

Another person was found dead inside the Quaddick Town Farm Road home, police said. The remains have since been transported to the chief medical examiner’s office for an autopsy and identification.

“This is the only information we have at this time,” state police said in a statement to Patch. “The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.”

Authorities also noted that “the area surrounding the scene has been cordoned off” as officers work to learn more about the deadly fire.
