Shots were fired near Donald Trump, his campaign said.
“President Trump is safe after gunfire nearby. No additional details at this time,” said Steven Cheung, his campaign spokesman.
According to the New York Post, two people exchanged gunfire outside the former president’s golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The golf course was immediately cordoned off and Trump was taken to safety.
The outlet reported that the shots were “not aimed at Trump.”
Trump, 78, was playing golf today at the resort, which is a short distance from his main residence, Mar-a-Lago, according to US media reports.
Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service’s chief spokesman, said Sunday’s shooting occurred shortly before 2 p.m. local time.
The agency is investigating the incident “in conjunction with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office,” he said, reiterating: “The former president is safe.”
Law enforcement officials are expected to provide more details soon.
No injuries were reported after the shooting near Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
It comes just two months after an assassination attempt on the Republican presidential candidate.
