Donald Trump has praised the Secret Service and law enforcement after an apparent assassination attempt on the former president at one of his Florida golf courses.

In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump thanked those who expressed concerns after the “interesting day” at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach on Sunday.

A suspect, identified as Ryan Routh, was arrested after Secret Service agents spotted a rifle sticking out of a bush on the golf course. The agents were sweeping the area and found a hole in front of the former president as he played golf, police said.

Officers opened fire on the suspected shooter, who fled before being apprehended. The suspect did not shoot Trump, and the former president was unharmed.

“I want to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes. It was certainly an interesting day,” Trump wrote on social media.

“I would especially like to thank the American secret services, [Palm Beach County] “Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his office of courageous and dedicated patriots, and all members of law enforcement, for the incredible work done today at Trump International to keep me SAFE, as the 45th President of the United States and Republican candidate in the upcoming presidential election. THE JOB DONE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. I AM SO PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!”

The FBI announced Sunday that it was joining the investigation into the incident.

“The FBI has responded to West Palm Beach, Florida and is investigating what appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump,” the agency said. Newsweek.
