A man sitting in the passenger seat of a car was shot by someone in another car early Monday in the United Center area, according to Chicago police.
The department said the shooting happened in the 200 block of South Ashland Avenue around 1:40 a.m.
After the shooting, cars continued driving on Ashland Avenue and stopped “when each vehicle struck a building” in the 1800 block of Ashland Avenue, which is more than a mile south of where the shooting took place, according to police.
The occupants of the shooter’s car fled the scene of the accident. The victim, a 33-year-old man, was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition. He suffered a gunshot wound to the torso, police said.
No one was in custody as of 2:50 a.m. and Chicago police detectives were investigating the circumstances of the incident.
