Vice President Kamala Harris should release her medical history and records Saturday, as his campaign now plans to pressure former President Donald Trump to release his.
The report will indicate that Harris, 59, has the physical and mental resilience to serve as president, according to a senior Harris aide.
It’s not yet clear how detailed Harris’ records will be, but her campaign views the release as an opportunity to shift the conversation toward the physical health and mental acuity of her opponent, 78-year-old Trump. Harris’ advisers say they can compare her age to Trump’s – challenging him to release more recent information.
Harris did not disclose his medical records during the 2020 campaign. In November 2023, Trump released a letter from his doctor of osteopathic medicine, Bruce Aronwald, stating that he had been examined in September 2023 and that his “overall health is excellent.” No details about his vital signs or medications were shared.
In a interview with CBS News in AugustTrump said he would “gladly” release his medical records and that he recently took a medical exam and received a “perfect score.”
If elected in November, Trump will become the oldest president in US history at the end of his term.
The Harris campaign’s attempt to highlight Trump’s age mirrors the Republican campaign’s approach to President Biden while he was a candidate. When Biden was still a candidate, Trump’s campaign often released clips of him tripping on the stairs of Air Force One, or of his verbal gaffes.
Biden left the 2024 race In July, after infighting and skepticism from Democrats, he could serve a second full term, which was boosted by a June debate in which he appeared to show signs of his age, 81, while speaking about ‘a hoarse voice and stumbling in the answers.
On social media, Harris’ campaign relied on references to Trump’s age, highlighting times when Trump slurred his words or misrepresented himself.
“Americans are sick and tired of your insulting lies and nonsense. This is getting… old,” the Kamala HQ X account posted in August.
