Police have closed a busy road in Greater Manchester as emergency services respond to an incident. Bury Old Road is closed in both directions in Whitefield, near the border with Prestwich.
The road was closed shortly before 8am today (24 July). A section of approximately 150 metres was cordoned off, near the Welcome Inn and the Coach and Horses.
Traffic is being diverted away from the scene. Manchester Evening News understands that emergency services were called following concerns for the welfare of an elderly man.

Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service are both at the scene. The incident is understood to be medically related, but police are yet to determine the full circumstances.
Two police cars are part of the response. A bus was also seen inside the cordon, according to witnesses.
It is not known how long the road will be closed. Emergency services have been contacted for further details.

ROAD CLOSED

The road is bounded between Derby Road and Cuckoo Lane.
Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service are both in attendance this morning.
Emergency services are understood to have been called to an elderly man’s health.
The police have not yet established all the circumstances of the incident.
