CPD investigates after attack on 2 Jewish students on DePaul campus – NBC Chicago

An investigation by DePaul University and the Chicago Police Department is underway after two Jewish students who were visibly showing support for Israel were attacked on the university’s Lincoln Park campus.

According to the university, the students were attacked on Wednesday around 3:20 p.m. in front of the Student Center by two masked assailants who beat the two students before fleeing. The students refused to receive medical treatment.

Chicago police are currently investigating whether the attack can be classified as a hate crime targeting students because of their Jewish identity.

“We will continue to do everything we can to ensure that DePaul is a safe and welcoming space for every member of our diverse campus community. We recognize that for a significant portion of our Jewish community, Israel is an essential part of their Jewish identity. students” – and every student – ​​should feel safe on our college campus.
