Antioch police negotiate man’s surrender after 8-hour standoff

ANTIOCH — A nearly eight-hour standoff with a 61-year-old man, armed with a knife and suspected of domestic violence, ended Friday evening with the man’s arrest by members of the state’s SWAT team. Antioch Police Department.

The standoff began after police were called to a home in the 1000 block of Stonecrest Drive around 3:43 p.m. Friday, according to an Antioch police news release. A woman was allegedly attacked, kidnapped and robbed by the suspect.

When officers arrived at the home, they found the 47-year-old woman outside, with her alleged attacker barricaded inside, the news release states. The man is also believed to be armed. Police also learned that he had violated the terms of a court order and was wanted on several unrelated felony warrants for violating the terms of his probation.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the man for several hours, but he refused to come out and surrender, according to the release. Instead, he showed the police a large knife. The Antioch Police Department’s Crisis Negotiations and SWAT teams responded quickly and continued negotiations.

At 11:46 p.m., the man finally surrendered and SWAT team members arrested him, according to the release.
