In the latest development in a salacious legal saga in Sacramento, a California state senator this week filed a counter-complaint against his former chief of staff — who claimed she sexually harassed him while he worked for her – claiming he was involved in the 2001 murder and disappearance of Washington intern Chandra Levy.
State Sen. Marie Alvarado Gil (R-Jackson) alleged that former staffer Chad Condit once warned her that he “knew how to make people disappear,” according to court documents filed Tuesday before the Superior Court of Sacramento County.
Condit, according to the lawsuit, was referring to her personal involvement in the unsolved murder of Levy, who worked for Condit’s father, former Rep. Gary Condit (D-Ceres), with whom she also allegedly had an affair.
According to the lawsuit, the senator first began looking into Levy’s case after Condit’s alleged comments.
Lawyers representing Condit called his allegations “baseless” and “baseless” in an email to The Times.
“This appears to be yet another attempt by the Senator to retaliate against Mr. Condit and cause him and his family further harm for daring to stand up to him and call out the Senator’s misconduct,” Arya Rhodes wrote , lawyer in charge of the case. . “We look forward to a thorough examination of Senator Alvarado-Gil’s behavior and state of mind and to having this case brought to trial as quickly as possible.”
Gary Condit was not a suspect in the Levy case. Another man was convicted of his murder, but in 2016 a judge threw out those charges after ruling that prosecutors could “no longer prove the murder charge” against him beyond a reasonable doubt.
Alvarado Gil’s lawsuit is the latest allegation in a scathing back-and-forth involving the senator and Chad Condit, who in September filed a lawsuit in Sacramento County Superior Court claiming that for much of 2023 , Alvarado Gil had “engaged in erratic activities.” , abuse of control, sexual domination of authority and power” against him.
Condit served as Alvarado Gil’s chief of staff from his election in December 2022 until his firing nearly a year later. Alvarado Gil claims in the lawsuit that Condit was fired from his position for “misconduct.”
The suit also alleged that Condit also made remarks that if she were a man, he would “kick it.” [her] ass.” She also alleged that he carried deadly weapons, including firearms, while working for her.
Alvarado Gil claims she “began to fear for her life and the safety of her family” after Condit became “increasingly unstable and unpredictable.”
