President-elect Trump announced Friday that he is nominating Johns Hopkins School of Medicine professor Dr. Marty Makary to serve as commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“I am very pleased to nominate Marty Makary MD, MPH, FACS, as FDA Commissioner,” Trump said in a statement. “The FDA has lost the trust of Americans and lost sight of its primary purpose as a regulator.
