President-elect Trump announced Friday that he is nominating Johns Hopkins School of Medicine professor Dr. Marty Makary to serve as commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“I am very pleased to nominate Marty Makary MD, MPH, FACS, as FDA Commissioner,” Trump said in a statement. “The FDA has lost the trust of Americans and lost sight of its primary purpose as a regulator. The Agency needs Dr. Marty Makary, a highly respected Johns Hopkins surgical oncologist and health policy expert, to correct the course and refocus the Agency.
Makary’s appointment comes after Trump nominated Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to head the Department of Health and Human Services to “make America healthy again.”

Trump said Makary “will work under the leadership of Robert F.
