A paedophile who worked at a school has been jailed for sexually abusing a boy under the age of 16. Acasia Welburn, now 26, from New Road in Telford, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison on Friday (July 26).
She pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust. Welburn appeared at York Crown Court for sentencing. Welburn’s abuse took place while she was working at a school in North Yorkshire where she held a position as a trusted carer.
Welburn began having sex with an autistic teenager. She first made contact with the boy on social media, sharing sexual messages and images. Shocking abuse followed as she met the victim regularly and sexually assaulted him in his car and flat, YorkshireLive reports.

After the verdict, Detective Constable Alison Morris, from North Yorkshire Police’s non-recent sexual abuse team, said: “I cannot praise the victim enough for the incredible courage and determination she has shown.
“This is another case that demonstrates that it is possible for victims to seek and obtain justice. We encourage anyone affected by crime to contact the police. They will be supported and listened to.”
