USA wins first gold medal at Paris Olympics in men’s 4x100m freestyle relay

The United States won its first gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games after a great performance in the 4x100m freestyle relay on Saturday.

The team — consisting of Jack Alexy, Chris Guiliano, Hunter Armstrong and Caeleb Dressel — finished 1.07 seconds ahead of the silver medal-winning Australian team. Italy took bronze.

The U.S. team has won gold in the event at 10 of the last 13 Olympics. This is also Dressel’s eighth Olympic gold medal.

Katie Ledecky wins bronze in women’s 400-meter freestyle

Katie Ledecky failed to reclaim gold in the women’s 400-meter freestyle on Saturday after Australia’s Ariarne Titmus defended her medal. Olympic title.

Titmus, nicknamed “Terminator,” handed Ledecky a second straight defeat at the Paris La Défense Arena after the 27-year-old American won in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

With her nails painted Australian yellow, Titmus led from start to finish. She faced her biggest challenge yet from Canadian Summer McIntosh, but won comfortably in 3 minutes and 57.49 seconds.

McIntosh won silver in 3:58.37. Ledecky was left behind to take bronze in 4:00.86.

After Saturday’s race, the highly decorated Ledecky remains on six individual gold medals, still the most of any swimmer in olympic historyThird place is his 11th Olympic medal overall.

Titmus now has three individual Olympic victories to her name. She won the 200m and 400 free in Tokyo – by beating Ledecky – and is favourite to achieve the same double in Paris.

Ledecky isn’t done yet. She missed a chance to face Titmus again in the 200 freestyle, but the American is favored to win gold in both events. 800 and 1500 groceries.

USA wins silver in women’s relay

The U.S. team won the silver medal in the 4×100-meter swimming relay, losing to Australia. China took bronze.

The U.S. relay team of Kate Douglass, Gretchen Walsh, Torri Huske and Simone Manuel set a new American record with a time of 3:30.20. That time is just under 2 seconds off the Australian Olympic record of 3:28.92.

The Australians, who hold the world record in the event, also held the previous Olympic record of 3:29.69, set in Tokyo.
