Man attacked in back of taxi by gang of knife-wielding men in London

A dash cam has captured the terrifying moment a man was attacked in the back of a taxi by a group of knife-wielding men in east London.

Footage circulating on social media shows a group of three men getting out of a taxi in Rainham on Tuesday – only for a confrontation to break out in the street outside, with one of them diving back into the cab moments later.

As the young man pleads with the driver to escape, a group of masked men who had stopped in a car behind the taxi surround them and appear to launch an attack, with one of them smashing the taxi’s right rear window while another man opens the door on the other side.

Dashcam video shows a tense few minutes as the man – who appears to have suffered at least one stab wound to his arm – warns that they are being pursued by the other vehicle and urges the driver to speed up to escape him.

The Metropolitan Police said on Saturday it was aware of the footage, adding that the incident was reported on June 23 and officers were called to reports of a stabbing on Spencer Road.

Police said in a statement: “Officers responded and discovered that a man had been approached by a group of people and had been stabbed.

“He went to hospital while calling the police and his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. An investigation is ongoing.”
