The Chicago White Sox hold almost all the superstar power on the trade market this winter. While a few other teams have floated stars, including Ryan Helsley, Alec Bohm and Devin Williams, on the trading block, it’s the White Sox duo of Luis Robert Jr. and Garrett Crochet that is grabbing the headlines.
Of the two, it’s the Hook that gets the most attention. His contract is still much smaller and he offers such a big upside that any team would want to bring. He is expected to sign a deal worth around $130 million when he finally hits free agency in 2027, according to Spotrac.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today recently reported on his trade market, matching him with two strong suitors this winter.

“The San Diego Padres reportedly love him (Hook) and have dealt many prospects in the past, but have told the White Sox they are holding on to catcher Ethan Salas and shortstop Leodalis De Vries,” Nightengale wrote. “The (Boston) Red Sox are hiding. Ultimately the White Sox will trade him to the team that gives them the most valuable prospects and hope they never experience anything like their embarrassing ’41 season again -121.”
The Padres could look to add another starter. They have been heavily linked to Japanese free agent Roki Sasaki, so we could see their attention turn to Hook if they fail to land Sasaki in the coming weeks.
The Red Sox are reportedly looking to add several starters, with Crochet and free agent Max Fried appearing to be the top two choices. I would expect the Red Sox to turn up the heat and address their deep farm system if they miss out on Fried in free agency.
