A California couple visiting Mexico for vacation was shot and killed Wednesday in the state of Michoacan, according to local authorities.
The woman, 51, died inside the vehicle and her husband, 53, died at a nearby hospital where he was taken, Michoacán prosecutor’s office spokeswoman Magdalena Guzman told CNN .
The couple was in Michoacán — a state along the country’s Pacific coast — “for a few days for the December vacation,” Guzman said.
Guzman did not identify the couple or the California city they were from.
Investigators began looking into the incident “as soon as it was reported,” but there is currently no indication who shot the couple, she said. said, adding that his office would be in contact with American authorities.
