OAKLAND — A 17-year-old Vallejo boy was fatally shot in East Oakland Friday night, authorities said.
His name has not yet been released pending notification of his family.
The shooting happened around 6:04 p.m. Friday in the 7800 block of Garfield Avenue, a residential neighborhood in the Eastlake district.
Police officers, who responded to a gunshot detection system alert, discovered that the young man had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Police have not said why the young man was in Oakland. Investigators have not revealed a motive for the killing and no arrests have been announced.
This is the 54th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time, police investigated 64 homicides in the city.
