The man to beat in the men’s 1,500-meter freestyle is Bobby Finke.
The 24-year-old is now a triple Olympic gold medallist after defending his title in the event on Sunday.
It is the seventh gold medal for the Americans in swimming and the 26th overall.

With seven gold medals, the United States is tied with Australia for the most medals in swimming, although their success rate is much higher, having won only 17 medals in total.
Finke failed to complete a double in the 800m freestyle earlier in the Games, settling for silver by just over half a second.

Finke had a half-second lead at the halfway point and was ahead of world record holder Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy. But Finke accelerated, increasing his lead to 1.3 seconds with 500 meters to go, putting himself well ahead of the world record holder.
