A woman has told how she was forced to call the police on her neighbour who she describes as a “grumpy, scary old boomer”.
Margaret, a Louisiana resident, took to Reddit under the handle u/AlwaysAngryFox to share her harrowing experience with her neighbor. In a post on r/BoomersBeingFools, she received over 7,600 upvotes and hundreds of comments.
She said she always had problems with this man; from the moment he moved in, he made her feel uncomfortable.
“He leaves trash outside his door, has no control over his guests, throws food and trash in common areas and once even tried to hit my dog with his cane,” Margaret, who did not give her last name, said in the post.
Despite numerous complaints to the building management, nothing was done to address his behavior. The situation escalated when he began taking her packages. “I would come home with no packages and have to wait for him to come and get my stuff. I kept telling him not to touch my packages. He would always say, ‘I’m trying to help you,’” Margaret said. Newsweek.
The exchanges lasted for over a year, and Margaret even installed a camera to try to dissuade him. The situation recently reached a climax.
But last week, while she was waiting for a book to be delivered, the neighbor tried to take her package again. She called him over the intercom, but he came back a few minutes later and took the package anyway.
“I had enough. I left work early, went home and called the police,” Margaret said. The responding officer reviewed the footage and warned the neighbor that further incidents could result in prosecution and arrest.
Reflecting on her decision, Margaret said: “I’m sick of having to deal with him. The problem has been going on for about a year and I’m sick of it. Everyone gets to the point eventually.”
In hundreds of replies on Reddit, people supported Margaret in her decision to call the police, criticizing the man for his actions.
“This old fool needs to be filed,” user PawnWithoutPurpose commented, while Thrownawayacademic wrote, “It seems like he’s trying to force an interaction with you, or this is some kind of weird power play. You’re doing the right thing. He can stop.”
Some commenters suggested that the man might be alone or even have a medical condition that left him confused and unsure of what he was doing, but Margaret wasn’t convinced.
“I know some people think he might have dementia or something, but no, he doesn’t. He’s doing it to be an asshole,” she said. “Even if he has dementia, that’s not my problem. He’s not my family, he’s not my friend.”
This isn’t the first time a “baby boomer neighbor” has been criticized online. Earlier this year, another Reddit user was applauded for the petty revenge he took on his neighbor.
