Actor Brett Goldstein, who played the role of Roy Kent in the Emmy Award-winning series “Ted Lasso“, is taking on a new role that he says he didn’t initially plan to play.
The Apple TV+ show “Shrinking” stars Jason Segel as Jimmy, a therapist grieving after the death of his wife, killed by a drunk driver. In the second season, Goldstein, who is also a co-creator, appears as this pilot.
“Playing the role of a drunk driver in this case, I did a lot of research… We read a lot of stories from people on both sides of this case and listened to a lot of people’s stories,” said Goldstein said.
Goldstein said the research was helpful in taking on his role.
“Because it’s the same process of empathizing with the character, and then when I was playing him, I was just thinking about PTSD. I know what it’s like when you get in a car accident, it just loops around in your mind. So I would just put it on loop before a scene,” he said.
The one thing Goldstein said he dislikes most about being on the show: having to shave his beard.
“I cried. I’ve had a beard my whole life. I was born with a beard,” he said. “I also discovered with sadness that it turns out that women don’t like me because of my personality.”
Beyond his new role, Goldstein discussed the possibility of future seasons of the beloved series “Ted Lasso“, but didn’t reveal much.
“I’ve heard these rumors,” he said with a laugh, before asking “CBS Mornings” co-host Gayle King, “Do you have any information?”
