Adam Sandler to reunite Raw gemstones director Josh Safdie for his new Netflix stand-up comedy, I love you.
Netflix hasn’t shared many details about the upcoming special. However, the trailer shows Sandler strumming his guitar and declaring his love to the audience multiple times. The show also takes a chaotic turn when a dog approaches the audience, prompting Sandler to ask, “What the hell is going on?”
The stand-up special will premiere on Netflix on August 27.
I love you marks Sandler’s first comedy special since 2018’s stand-up special 100% fresh.
Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison, extended its deal with Netflix in 2020 to make four more films for the streamer following his 2019 comedy starring Jennifer Aniston. Mysterious Murder became Netflix’s most popular film of 2018.
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos welcomed the move, noting that Netflix audiences “love its stories and its humor.”
The comedian has since delivered several acclaimed comedies to the streamer, including the 2022 sports film Hustlethe sequel to 2023 Mysterious Murderand family comedy You’re not invited to my Bat Mitzvah at allin which his two daughters also played.
And the actor has other projects in the works. He’ll soon be starring in a new Noah Baumbach film with George Clooney, as well as another project with the Safdie brothers, according to his IMDb.
Netflix has also greenlit a sequel to Sandler’s classic comedy. Happy Gilmore.
Sandler’s co-star Christopher McDonald has confirmed that the film is already “in the works,” but it may be a few years before we see Happy Gilmore back on the green.
Details about Happy Gilmore 2 are still being kept under wraps. For now, though, Sandler fans will be able to tune in to his new comedy special when it airs later this month.
