This has been quite the week for singer-songwriter divas who specialize in vocalizing female pain and have a rock-solid grasp of how to use the media to promote their work. Taylor Swift has been getting the Millennial girls and gays all in their feelings this week as she conquers the world and makes a victory lap in support of “Red (Taylor’s Version).” Now here comes Adele, staging a drop-dead flawless concert at a Los Angeles landmark and sitting down for an interview Harry-and-Meghan style with Oprah herself. Adele: One Night Only was a perfectly staged mega-diva turn, reaffirming (as if anyone needed reminding) her status as a generational talent and a world-class entertainer with the personality of a superstar. And not for nothing, but your girl looked flamazing through the whole thing.
In Christopher John Rogers
She out-Oprah’d Oprah in Oprah’s own rose garden. Oprah’s wearing a great suit in that relaxed So Cal Guru style she does so well, but Adele’s crisp white custom Christopher John Rogers suit, flawless makeup, killer earrings, and sleek hair make it very clear who’s got the spotlight here. We love how subtle the crystal embellishments are; just enough minimalist sparkle to say “star.”
But your diva really outdid herself with this Schiaparelli gown as her stage costume. Just an absolutely gorgeous and dramatic look that screamed DIVA at the world and went from dramatic to mysterious as night fell on the stage. The perfection of this look is pretty self-evident and can be compared to the iconic gowns worn by her ancestral divas Barbra Streisand and Diana Ross for their own legendary outdoor concerts. The most succinct and on-point praise we can give it is this prediction: Drag queens will be doing this look for decades.
