Ali Larter says she and her co-star Billy Bob Thornton may be complete opposites in real life, but they’ve found a common love for their characters in their new series “Landman.”
Set in the world of West Texas oil rigs, the new Paramount+ series created by Taylor Sheridan – who is also the person behind “Yellow Stone” – influences the lives of workers and the impact of big oil companies on their communities.
At the heart of the series is the complicated relationship between Larter and Thorton’s characters, divorced couple Angela and Tommy Norris.
“We’re so different. Billy and I, in real life, are complete opposites,” Larter told “CBS Mornings Plus.” “But when we got together…we both loved the subject matter, and we found love in these two characters. Because even though they train all the time, they love each other for their faults, and there are not many judgmental ones.
After auditioning and getting to know the character better, Larter said she was hooked.
“When I went there for the test, it was like I had to play Angela because she’s so defiant and so free and bold and fiery,” she said. “But then what [Sheridan]What it does is it really shows you the vulnerable side and where you fall apart.
Larter said the series feels real because it’s based on the “Boomtown” podcast by Christian Wallace, who spent a year living on oil platforms and in the men’s camps. This real-world experience is reflected in the show, with experts on set ensuring every detail is accurate.
“Being able to get a real glimpse into this world is very special,” Larter said.
“Landman” premieres Sunday, Nov. 17 exclusively on Paramount+, which, like CBS, is part of Paramount Global.
