All lanes blocked on Edens Expressway near Old Orchard Mall after trailer overturns – NBC Chicago

All exit lanes of the Edens Expressway (I-94) at Old Orchard in Skokie were blocked early Wednesday after a semi-truck with seeds overturned on the highway, according to Illinois State Police.

The incident happened around 5:30 a.m. Eastern Time. As of 6:30 a.m., the trailer, which spilled garden seeds onto the highway, was still overturned, NBC 5 Traffic reporter Kye Martin said.

No injuries were reported.

Martin added that heavy congestion and tailbacks were expected, with the accident disrupting the busy route in the opposite direction.

Total Traffic reported “solid traffic” backed up to Niles Center Road.

Martin recommended that commuters heading to the northern suburbs exit at Touhy and take U.S. 41 (Skokie Blvd.) or Waukegan Road to avoid traffic.
