All the Details of Jennifer Lopez’s Wedding to Ben Affleck
Jennifer Lopez will always be “Jenny from the Block,” but now she’s also officially Mrs. Jennifer Affleck.
Just three months after getting engaged for the second time, the pop star and her fiancé Ben Affleck got married in a small ceremony in Las Vegas over the weekend after obtaining a marriage license in Clark County, Nevada. Lopez shared the happy news in her newsletter, On The JLo, writing, “Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient. Exactly what we wanted. Last night we flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world.”
She explained that they “barely made it to the Little White Wedding Chapel by midnight,” but the venue was gracious enough to stay open for a few extra minutes so that the couple could tie the knot. “We are so grateful to have that in abundance, a new wonderful family of five amazing children and a life that we have never had more reason to look forward to,” Lopez wrote. “Stick around long enough and maybe you’ll find the best moment of your life in a drive through in Las Vegas at twelve thirty in the morning in the tunnel of love drive through, with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with. Love is a great thing, maybe the best of things—and worth waiting for.”
For the ceremony, it appears that the Grammy winner wore two different dresses. As her “something old,” Lopez chose a vintage white, sleeveless, boatneck gown with an A-line, quilted skirt “from an old movie” she was in, explaining, “I’ve had this dress for so many years, and I’ve just been saving it, saving it, saving it, and now I’m wearing it on my wedding day.” But once they arrived at the Little White Wedding Chapel, she changed into a second look from the Zuhair Murad Bridal Couture collection—a white, lace, off-the-shoulder gown with long sleeves, a sweetheart neckline, corset bodice and fishtail train complete with a matching lace-trimmed veil. And Affleck simply wore a white tuxedo straight out of his own closet, changing into the look in the bathroom of the chapel. Lopez also later showed off her new wedding band on Instagram, revealing that it’s a simple, thick, silver band.
“So with the best witnesses you could ever imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives,” Lopez concluded. “They even had Bluetooth for a (short) march down the aisle. But in the end it was the best possible wedding we could have imagined. One we dreamed of long ago and one made real (in the eyes of the state, Las Vegas, a pink convertible and one another) at very, very long last.” According to the court documents and her own sign-off on the newsletter, Lopez has also decided to take her new husband’s name, legally changing hers to Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck.
