STORY: Amazon revealed a list of new AI models.
Called “Nova”, they will handle jobs such as generating text, images and videos.
Amazon says this could have direct benefits for sellers on its website.
They could use it, for example, to turn still images into short videos to promote products.
Chief executive Andy Jassy said the new models are a response to customer demands for better, lower-cost AI.
He revealed the decision at a conference in Las Vegas on Tuesday.
This pits Amazon against competitors like Adobe and Meta, Facebook’s parent company.
They are all rushing to serve customers who want to further automate their services.
Jassy also said the company will soon release an AI-enhanced version of its Alexa voice assistant.
Reuters reported that the project faced delays due to concerns about the accuracy and speed of the robot’s responses.
Amazon has been criticized for falling behind its competitors in the race to exploit new technology.
However, the company’s head of artificial general intelligence, Rohit Prasad, said Tuesday that it is still “very early” in the AI era.
He says this gives Amazon enough time to catch up and take the lead.
