The Chicago Sky have hired a new head coach.
Chicago is tapping Tyler Marsh to lead its team next season, ESPN reported Saturday.
Marsh has worked on the Las Vegas Aces staff since 2022 as an assistant coach and head of player development for the team.
While on staff, the Aces won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023 and reached the semifinals last season.
The news comes after Sky fired Teresa Weatherspoon in September following a season in which the team finished 13-27 and missed the playoffs, despite a terrific rookie season from Angel Reese.
At the time of the firing, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that there was a “disconnect” that became apparent during end-of-season interviews.
In the days following the firing, Reese told the outlet she had a hard time imagining playing for another coach.
“I can’t imagine playing for Sky without [Spoon]”, Reese told the Sun-Times. “That’s the only reason I wanted to come here.”
However, in early October, Chicago general manager Jeff Pagliocca said things between the team and Reese had “calmed down.”
“The franchise’s relationship with Angel is in a good place,” Pagliocca said, according to the Chicago Tribune. “The emotion was high for a few days, and we can respect that. We can appreciate it. We understand that there are bonds that are formed with the coaches and the players, especially the younger ones.
“So we’re in a good position right now. We resume discussions. Everything has calmed down a bit, but I understand that. Emotions are really part of this thing when you have a real friendship.
Marsh is now Sky’s fourth head coach in three seasons.
