HAYWARD – A 46-year-old Newark man was arrested last week in connection with a fatal shooting in July, authorities said.
Shots were fired around 10:30 a.m. July 13 near the intersection of Pompano Avenue and Sumatra Street, Hayward police said in a news release Monday.
Officers arrived to find evidence of a shooting, police said. Moments later, they received additional reports of a shooting in the 27000 block of Havana Avenue, as well as reports of a collision.
At the second location, officers found Angel Enciso, 19, of Hayward, suffering from a gunshot wound in the driver’s seat of a car, police said. He appears to have crashed into a parked car after being shot.
Enciso was transported to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.
This is the city’s seventh homicide of the year.
Detectives collected evidence and identified Daniel Ramos as a suspect in the fatal shooting, police said.
On October 10, Ramos was arrested on suspicion of murder. A search of his Newark home also uncovered several firearms, which were entered into evidence, police said.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting.
“This investigation is ongoing,” police said, “and further details will be released as they become available.”
