Aubrey Plaza isn’t afraid to make a splash.
Always ready to keep the fashion industry on its toes, the “White Lotus” star, 40, wore a sheer Gucci dress to Dead Funny: An All-Star Tribute to Joan Rivers, an event benefitting God’s Love We Deliver, Thursday evening.
Marking the tenth anniversary of the “Fashion Police” star’s death, the event included comedic tributes to Rivers and her decades-long career.
Plaza’s dress featured lace straps, velvet cups and crystal embellishments throughout the bodice and sheer skirt. She finished the look with high-waisted shorts, pumps and Boucheron jewelry and wore her hair in a shoulder-length curly bob.
Around the middle of the show, Plaza took the stage for a typically deadpan takedown of some of the “Fashion Police” star’s most politically incorrect jokes, suggesting they should be buried with the iconic comedian.
Rivers surely would have had something to say about Plaza’s look for the evening — and that of the other comics who paid tribute to her at the event.
Nikki Glaser opted for a Rebecca Vallance LBD accented with gold chains, Michelle Buteau opted for a bold blue bubble dress and Chelsea Handler looked elegant in an off-the-shoulder brown midi. Meanwhile, Rachel Brosnahan made a wonderful impression in a floral-skirted Raisa Vanessa mini and Tiffany Haddish brought down the house in a figure-hugging green Tove maxi.
Plaza is no stranger to wearing unexpected, make-you-stand-out numbers on the red carpet.
In January, for the 2024 Emmy Awards, the star dropped jaws in a buttery yellow Loewe number, which featured a gigantic pin on an envelope bodice.
The edgy look quickly sparked memes as it was compared to Post-It notes, a slice of cheese and more.
The “Agatha All Along” star’s 2023 SAG Awards dress also got people talking, thanks to the ab-baring cutout of the Michael Kors sequin dress.
She even had a viral exhausted moment on stage, but then overcame that moment in playful behind-the-scenes snaps.
And Plaza’s stylist took to Instagram to defend the barely-there dress, reassuring fans that the revealing look was definitely intentional.
We give the team an A+.
