Authorities identify man killed in suspected DUI crash
SAN JOSE – A man killed in a suspected DUI crash last weekend in San Jose’s Hellyer neighborhood has been identified as Jaime Lopez Perez, 26, of Pleasanton, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
Perez was driving a 2007 Toyota sedan eastbound on Hellyer Avenue around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 3 when he crashed into three parked vehicles near Ridgebrook Way, according to the San Jose Police Department. He got out of the Toyota and was walking in the roadway when he was struck by a 2000 Dodge truck traveling westbound.
Police said Perez died of his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge, identified as 23-year-old Rolando Lopez, remained at the scene and “displayed symptoms of intoxication,” according to police. He was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.
The death marked the 44th fatal collision and 46th traffic fatality of the year on city streets.
