Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has filed a $12 million lawsuit against his own father over an apparent contract issue with his father’s company.

Mayfield accused his father’s company, Canwood Capital, of transferring Mayfield and his wife’s money “without authorization” from 2018 to 2021.

According to the lawsuit, the two sides reached an agreement in January in which Mayfield’s father, James, would repay almost all of the money, but Mayfield claims he received nothing.

The first payment of $250,000 was due Sept. 30, but Mayfield never received it, according to the suit.

“Once Plaintiffs began to discover Defendants’ misconduct and sought answers to explain the forfeiture of their assets, Defendants attempted to hide relevant information, avoided Plaintiffs’ requests, and invented fictitious explanations. for their actions…” the suit reads.

“It is now clear that Defendants did not intend to make restitution to Plaintiffs when they entered into the settlement agreement. To date, Canwood Capital has not repaid even one dollar in Under the Settlement Agreement, Defendants failed to refinance their existing loan and Defendants failed to provide Plaintiffs with access to their books and records… In other words, Defendants did not have fulfilled none of their obligations and have even refused to respond to the plaintiffs’ requests regarding these violations.
