Bears players want HC Matt Eberflus to replace Caleb Williams

The Chicago Bears have started the season promisingly. Behind rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, the team went 4-2 in its first six games. However, the last three outings have led to raids in the locker room.

More news: Bears make massive changes by firing coach to help rebound

The Bears are currently on a three-game losing streak, and Bears head coach Matt Eberflus revealed that some big changes are going to be made to help the team bounce back. Initially, Eberflus did not reveal what these changes were, but a change was finally reported this morning.

Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron was relieved of his duties and passing game coordinator Thomas Brown was promoted to the position. While the change may have come out of nowhere, these are the players who reportedly approached Eberflus and Bears general manager Ryan Poles about making the change.

Worse, some veteran players have also called for Williams to be benched for Tyson Bagent.

According to Waddle and Silvy of ESPN, “After speaking to a few people with knowledge of the situation, the players reached out to Matt Eberflus and Ryan Poles asking them to make a change at offensive coordinator. A few veteran players also requested changes. departures to Bagent.

Although the players who raised these concerns were anonymous, their request to have Waldron removed as offensive coordinator was granted.

Eberflus did not allow the second concern to be granted, as he said on Monday that Willaims would remain the starter for the time being. It’s hard not to understand why the players want him on the bench given that he regressed between the first six weeks of the season and the last three.

In Weeks 1-6, Williams threw for 1,317 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions. In the last three games, he has thrown for just 468 yards. While the rookie quarterback once showed flashes of brilliance, he has been held up in the Bears’ last three outings.

Williams is still a rookie, after all, and should have the opportunity to grow as he plays. However, the Bears are losing ground in the NFC and could find themselves out of the playoffs if they continue to lose games.

The hope is that Brown can help revive an offense that looked dynamic through the first quarter of the season. If that doesn’t happen and Williams continues to struggle, the organization may need to consider retaining the rookie for the remainder of 2024.

This is just speculation, but the Bears seem to be in panic mode right now.
