Ben Affleck has no illusions that he and Jennifer Lopez can repair their troubled marriage, nor does he want to, sources familiar with the matter said this week.
The 51-year-old Oscar winner “knows the marriage is over” and while he “will always take care of Jen…he wants to focus on himself,” a source told Us Weekly.
The source added that Affleck was “in a better frame of mind” after closing on his new $20.5 million Pacific Palisades property on July 24, the same day Lopez celebrated her 55th birthday in the Hamptons.
Today, sources say Affleck is “moving forward.”
As most observers suspected, the move marked “the end of the relationship,” said an Affleck source, who added that while the couple is estranged, they remain in communication.
It seems that it was the “Gone Girl” star who wanted to end the relationship that began in the early 2000s, but which ultimately led to a very public engagement and breakup. Affleck and Lopez eventually reconciled in 2021 and tied the knot the following summer.
Much like their previous relationship, Affleck and Lopez appear to be on “different pages” and “don’t have a lot in common,” a second source told Us Weekly, while a third said the latest split is “heartbreaking” for the Bronx-born pop star.
“In a perfect world, Jen would like it to work out with Ben,” they said, noting that she “tried hard” to make that happen.
Sources confirmed to the outlet that Affleck and the “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” singer have a prenup with conditions and that they hope, above all, to “remain on good terms.”
A source said neither Affleck nor Lopez “want this to drag on and become contentious.”
The couple, who have continued to sort through their wedding rings while remaining tight-lipped about their relationship, quietly listed their $60 million Beverly Hills mansion in June, before publicly listing it in mid-July.
Despite speculation that their differing approaches to fame fueled much of their marital tension, a source told People last month that the couple had “deeper issues.”
In addition to Affleck skipping Lopez’s birthday, the couple spent July 4 and their second wedding anniversary on opposite coasts last month.
