Benjamin Sesko scores stunning volley to relegate Manchester United duo

Manchester United held talks over a potential move for Red Bull Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko this summer.

Sky Sports reported the two clubs were too far apart on valuation, and Sesko ended up being sold to Salzburg’s partner club RB Leipzig for a snip, on the condition the deal goes through in 2023.

He continues to show why there was such a clamour for his signature with a stunning volley for Slovenia against Sweden which had shades of Marco van Basten.

Sesko relegates Manchester United duo

Sesko’s strike broke the deadlock away at Sweden and earned his country a 1-1 draw, with Emil Forsberg scoring an equaliser for the hosts.

This result was enough to ensure third place for Slovenia and relegated Sweden to UEFA Nations League Division C.

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof was among the Sweden defence unable to do anything about Sesko’s wonderstrike.

Lindelof had told Fotboll Skanalen this week how keen he was to get a win over Slovenia, stating: “There is no chance that I want to play the C division.

“Hopefully that won’t happen. But it’s up to us to go out and perform.”

Lindelof didn’t count on Sesko’s quality, and we could be hearing a lot more about the promising striker dubbed the ‘next Haaland’ over the coming years, and United may regret not getting the deal done.

Anthony Elanga was a second half substitute for Sweden as they pushed for a winner, but they ended the group in fourth place with just one win from six matches.
