Brent Clifford, son of longtime Credence Clearwater Revival member Doug Clifford, has been arrested in California in connection with a homicide in Nevada and a missing persons case in California.
The Reno, Nevada, Police Department said Clifford was taken into custody in Portola, California, on Wednesday with assistance from the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Clifford after William Andrews, 68, was found fatally shot in Reno Sunday morning. Police said the two men knew each other. Police said Clifford, 55, had Andrews’ red 2003 Chevrolet Blazer with him when he was arrested. Portola is about 50 miles northwest of Reno.
Separately, the Placer County (Calif.) Sheriff’s Office and the Reno Police Department are considering Clifford a suspect in the disappearance of his girlfriend Patricia Portella-Wright, 48, who vanished earlier this month. She was last seen with Clifford on Aug. 4 in the Kings Beach area of Lake Tahoe, but she wasn’t reported missing until Aug. 9, when she failed to show up for work.
An unidentified body, believed to be Portella-Wright’s, was discovered Thursday along a highway in Washoe County, Nevada, but it has not been confirmed that it is the missing woman.
“It appears to be foul play,” Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Dave Smith said at a news conference Thursday.
