Bushey crossbow attack victim ‘called police to say she had been shot’

The daughter of BBC racing commentator John Hunt called police and told them she and her family had been shot before the call was cut off, an inquest heard.

Louise Hunt, 25, and her sister Hannah, 28, died from injuries sustained from crossbow bolts during an attack at their family home in Bushey on July 9. Their mother Carol, 61, died from stab wounds.

Inquests into their deaths were opened and adjourned at Hertfordshire Coroners Court in Hatfield on Tuesday.

The court was told Hannah texted someone to say she had been “tied up” at the property.

The text instructed the anonymous citizen to call police, telling them the person responsible was at home, a medical examiner said during the brief hearing.

Ms Hunt was then able to call police, reporting that she had been shot, as had her mother and sister. She gave her address before the call was cut off.

When officers arrived they found her alive in the front doorway of the house with a crossbow bolt still in her chest, Hertfordshire senior coroner Geoffrey Sullivan said.
