All cancer treatment in East Cheshire will be transferred to the new Christie at the Macclesfield Cancer Center from next month.
The center opens Monday, Dec. 13 and replaces the services currently offered at Macclesfield Hospital.
The Christie Charitable Fund sought to raise £ 23 million to open the center, which will reduce the travel time for cancer patients in Cheshire East who would normally travel to Christie in Manchester.

The move represents the first major change in cancer treatment in the East Cheshire region in 18 years.
Since 2003, cancer treatment has been provided at the Macmillan Cancer Resource Center at Macclesfield Hospital.
All existing East Cheshire cancer patients will see their appointments transferred to The Christie in Macclesfield, including both treatment and ongoing support services.
Janet Parkinson, Macmillan Support and Information Manager, said: “The opening of the new Christie Center will change the way our local people have access to care, treatment and support closer to home, and we are delighted to be a part of this exciting journey.
“We want to assure our users that the team will continue to support and care for patients and families, as they have always done.”
John Hunter, Medical Director at the East Cheshire NHS Trust, said: “The Macmillan Center has played a major role in the successful delivery of cancer treatment in East Cheshire since 2003, and we would like to acknowledge the team’s incredible dedication and commitment over several years.”

“We will bring together essential cancer services in a specially built center that gives local specialists access to radiation therapy, chemotherapy, hematology, holistic support and information services, outpatient treatment, palliative care and a wider range of clinical trials than today.
Christie at Macclesfield will accommodate 46,000 patient visits a year, including 12,500 radiation treatments and about 6,800 chemotherapy and hematology treatments.
“We are delighted to welcome many highly talented and professional oncologists who are switching from the East Cheshire NHS Trust to The Christie when we open on December 13, 2021.”
