City hit by new COVID cases

Pep Guardiola says his team have been hit by new COVID cases ahead of our home game against Chelsea.

The City boss, who has just returned from self-isolation, was asked if the reported outbreak from the last few weeks had improved and if he wanted more players available for Saturday’s match.

But he says that while some are back in training, others are likely to be ruled out with the virus.

“No, some people are coming, some people are positive again,” Guardiola said.

“When you test twice negative, you come back, otherwise you stay home and isolate yourself, which happens at all [Premier League] clubs within the last three months.

“We have some new cases, yes, but we want privacy, I can not tell you that [who is out].

“Unfortunately, we are used to dealing with this situation for a long time. It has been happening for a year or two.

“We are adapting and hopefully the cases will be dealt with and the players will be back in good shape.

Sterling named Player of the Month in the Premier League

“I think COVID is everywhere in the world. It’s not like there’s no COVID in this part of the world. That’s not true.

“We had a lot of cases and a lot of injuries. We played Aston Villa with 11 first-team players.

“The last four or five games we have played with academy players on the bench. We are in the same situation as all other clubs.

“Injuries can be fewer because our medical department is incredible. But in terms of COVID, we are the same.

“It’s not that we’re smarter or smarter or making the protocols better. When the virus gets into the bubble, everyone suffers. There is no exception.”
