Community service officer killed by alleged drunk driver

SAN JOSE — A driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol struck two San Jose police community service officers, killing one and seriously injuring the other.

Officers were struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop on Monterey Road in response to another unrelated vehicle accident.

The driver, suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, was arrested. The other police officer remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

“Our police family is devastated by this line of duty death, and we stand in solidarity with her family, friends and teammates as we all deal with this painful incident,” the San Jose Police Department said in a statement. “We are also praying for our other officer who suffered serious injuries in the traffic accident and remains hospitalized. May she make a speedy recovery.”

Acting Chief Paul Joseph is expected to provide more information about the incident and the investigation at a news conference Monday.
