Connecticut tire thief crashes into police car while fleeing: cops

A man caught trying to steal vehicle tires in a parking lot in Farmington, Connecticut, was arrested after crashing into a police car, authorities said Tuesday.

Bryant Serrano, 26, of Hartford, was discovered by Farmington police officers just before 2 a.m. in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn on Colt Highway.

Police say officers attempted to stop him, but he refused and fled the scene in an unregistered Toyota Avalon with used license plates.

As Serrano walked away, he reportedly crashed the Toyota into a police car according to NBC Connecticut. He then got out of the car and continued to flee on foot.

The suspect reportedly ran into a wooded area as officers from UConn Health Center, New Britain, and Plainville responded to the scene. and helped maintain a perimeter, local television station WFSB reported.

The Farmington police K9 unit and a drone were also used in the search, officials said.

Serrano was found hiding in the woods and arrested around 3:30 a.m.. He faces multiple charges, including theft, police pursuit, interfering with a police officer/resisting and reckless driving.

He is currently being held on $75,000 bail, officials said.
