A couple and two children who died in a crash in West Yorkshire on Sunday which also killed two other people have been identified as Shane Roller, Shannen Morgan and their daughters Lillie and Rubie.

The two-vehicle collision, which also left an 11-year-old girl orphaned, happened on the A61 Barnsley Road between Staincross in Barnsley and Newmillerdam, Wakefield, on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services received reports of the incident involving a Ford Focus car and a motorcycle at 3.54pm.

A motorcyclist and his passenger, a man and a woman, were confirmed dead at the scene, along with an adult man and woman and two girls.

According to a Facebook post by brother Callum Roller, the car contained Shane Roller, Morgan and their daughters.

Callum wrote: “I’m honestly at a loss for words today, we lost two of our nieces, my sister in law and my amazing brother in a car accident… I’m heartbroken, I’m going to miss you all!

“This broke my heart and it broke both families! You all had hearts of gold and we will miss you all terribly! My thoughts are with Shannen’s family and mine! We are all in shock!”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for the surviving brother.

The road where the incident took place has been closed between Shaw Lane and Warren Lane and is expected to remain closed for some time while the investigation continues.

Footage taken after the crash showed a burnt-out car on the side of the road and a large police presence on the A61. The family’s Ford Focus is believed to have caught fire after colliding with the motorbike. Debris, believed to have come from the motorbike, was visible in the middle of the road.

Superintendent Alan Travis, of Wakefield District Police, said: “This is an absolutely tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of six lives. Our thoughts are with the families of those who have died, who we are working with to provide support at this time.”

A former neighbour of the family told MailOnline: “They were a perfect family. Everyone is in shock. But as a lorry driver I know accidents can happen, especially on this stretch of road. I passed Shane in a shop a while ago… so I couldn’t believe it when I heard it.”

Security Minister Dan Jarvis, MP for Barnsley North, wrote on X: “Devastating news. My deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives.”
