Dr Saleyha Ahsan, a trained military doctor who worked in hospitals during the first two waves of Covid and is now part of the Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK group after losing her father to the virus, said she felt there had been “no planning” with doctors often struggling to source the right PPE.
“The rules were changing daily for the first few weeks, it was ridiculous,” she said.
“We wore very flimsy protective equipment: just a small surgical mask and a white apron.
“We felt like we had to figure it out and the people who were being pushed to the forefront were health care professionals.”
“It’s really important for those of us who have survived this ordeal, who have lost or suffered health problems because of this ordeal, to really understand where things went wrong and who was responsible.”
