Crime & Public Safety | 40-year-old man dies in fatal shooting, 24-year-old man seriously injured minutes apart Friday night on West and South Banks

A 40-year-old man was pronounced dead and another man, 24, was left in critical condition after being shot within minutes of each other Friday night on the West and South Sides, Chicago police said.

The latest shooting happened at 11:35 p.m. Friday in the 100 block of North Lamon Avenue in the South Austin neighborhood.

Police said a 40-year-old man was in a basement apartment when someone he knew pulled out a gun during an argument and shot the victim in the chest and back. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A weapon was recovered and charges are pending, police said.

Shortly before 11:25 p.m., another 24-year-old man was found seriously injured in the 7800 block of South Cornell Avenue, police said.

The man suffered head and body injuries and was taken to UChicago Medicine Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. No one has been arrested, but investigators are looking into the circumstances leading up to the attack.
